I wonder if pro comics go into business ventures that exploit their fame the way athletes do when they retire. Like maybe open a bar with your name on the top, or a clothing store like Magic Johnson did. I realize it’s for charity, but it’s funny Magic would lend his name to a thrift store chain that probably barely pulls a profit. I’d like to see Jerry Rice follow suit and open up some other barely-grossing business…like a Mexican food restaurant in the mission. Or a Chinese restaurant in the tenderloin. “Jerry’s Rice.” He would be so energetic and smile at everyone and be the magnetic personality that brings everyone in. “Hey Jerry, remember your 3 TD catches in the Superbowl?!” “Sure do guys, ol’ Steve threw some tight spirals. Now how about some more of my won ton soup?” “Hey Jerry, what are you doing with yourself now that you’ve retired?” “Well, I went from being the best receiver in the NFL to owning the second best Chinese restaurant on the block, so really it’s been a pretty smooth transition. Can I interest anyone is some of my special shrimp eggrolls?”
